Meng Jin's observation of soldiers

Mengjin military parade is one of the earliest large-scale military parades in Chinese history. In 1048 BC, King Wu of Zhou held a large-scale military exercise in order to test his appeal, test the attitude of the vassal states and the reaction of King Zhou of Shang. King Wu of Zhou held a large-scale military parade in Mengjin (now Mengjin, Henan Province), which is known as "Mengjin military parade". When King Wu of Zhou inspected the army in Mengjin, he gathered 800 vassals. However, he found that several big vassals had not come, so he decided to withdraw his troops and continue to accumulate strength to wait for the opportunity.

Cause of the incident

In the second year after King Wu of Zhou ascended the throne, he launched a large army to carry King Wen Mu Zhu, who set out from Ho Jing to enter the territory of today's Henan Province and arrive at Gu Du Meng Jin. On the surface, it was for military exercises, but in fact, it was to explore the possibility of cutting merchants.

Event introduction

Zhou Yuan was a small vassal state in the western border of Shang Dynasty. During his 50 years in office, King Wen of Zhou implemented many correct policies and gradually strengthened his national strength. At the time of his death, he had two thirds of the world, which laid the foundation for the destruction of business. After the death of King Wen, King Wu ascended the throne, with taigongwang as his teacher and zhougongdan as his assistant. Both Zhao Gong and Bi Gong were around the king. When Jifa was actively planning to destroy the Shang Dynasty, King Zhou of the Shang Dynasty fought against him and used his troops to the southeast. At that time, business politics was very corrupt, but it still had strong military strength. King Wu decided to take the opportunity to conduct a joint exercise to understand his appeal and military situation. As a result, the princes and small states responded one after another and led their troops to Mengjin to assist in the battle, which made King Wu of Zhou strengthen his confidence in destroying the merchants. However, because the time is not yet fully ripe, it is time to return. The rehearsal of the destruction of business was known as "Mengjin meeting" or "Mengjin watching soldiers".

The military observation was actually a military exercise and review in preparation for the destruction of business. He led the army westward to the mausoleum of King Wen in Biyuan (now in Chang'an County of Shaanxi Province), and then eastward to Chaoge. In the Chinese army, a big wooden board with the name of his father xibochang was erected. He only called himself Prince FA, which meant that King Wen was still in command. When the army arrived at Yujin (now the northeast of Mengjin County in Henan Province) on the South Bank of the Yellow River, 800 princes came to attend. The situation that the people of Zhou Dynasty and Zhou Dynasty were isolated and helpless was formed. The princes urged King Wu to march to Chaoge immediately. King Wu and Jiang Shang thought that the time was not yet ripe. After the army crossed the Yellow River, they ordered the whole army to return, and warned everyone not to act too hastily with "you don't know the destiny of heaven.".

In another two years, King Wu discovered that King Zhou of Shang Dynasty was more fatuous and tyrannical. Good minister Bigan, Jizi advice, one was killed, one was imprisoned. Taishiqi and shaoshiqiang, seeing that King Zhou was hopeless, fled with sacrificial utensils in the ancestral temple of the Shang Dynasty. The common people all looked sideways and kept silent. After studying with Jiang Shang, the king of Wu thought that the conditions for the destruction of the Shang Dynasty were completely mature. According to the will of King Wen, he decisively decided to send troops to attack the Shang Dynasty and informed the vassal states to march towards Chaoge.

Significance

It is said that as many as 800 princes and tribal leaders came to the meeting when Mengjin was watching the soldiers. At the meeting, King Wu of Zhou held an oath ceremony, which is the famous "Mengjin oath" in history. Since then, many princes have followed Zhou's command and had a good grasp of destroying business.
