Shennong tastes all kinds of herbs

 01

After Fuxi, Shennong was another legendary figure who contributed a lot to the Chinese nation. Shennong was originally the leader of the Jiang tribe in the Jiangshui River Basin. In addition to inventing farm tools and wooden Lei, Shennong taught people farming, pottery and weaving, and the use of fire, he also invented medical skills, developed the calendar, and created the irrigation technology of nine wells. He was named Shennong because of his invention of farming technology. Because he was king huodewang, he was called Yandi, CHIDI and lieshanshi. He was known as Shennong in the world and respected as the God of agriculture by later generations.

It is said that Shennong was born as a "crystal belly", which is almost transparent. All the viscera can be seen, and what he eats can also be seen. At that time, people often fell ill or even died because of eating indiscriminately. Shennong once strode over mountains and rivers, tasted all kinds of herbs, looking for good medicine for curing diseases and detoxification, in order to save the life of the young and injured. Later, he died of intestinal rupture due to eating "heartbroken grass" by mistake. Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing is based on his works. Yan Emperor Shennong reigned for 120 years and passed down the name of Shennong for seven generations, totaling 380 years.

Legend of Shennong tasting herbs

In ancient times, grains and weeds grew together, and medicines and flowers bloomed together. No one could tell which grains to eat and which herbs to treat diseases. People live by hunting. The birds in the sky are fewer and fewer, and the animals in the ground are rarer and rarer, so people have to starve. Who wants to have sores and diseases, no medicine, no death also want to peel off skin! The sufferings of the common people are in Shennong's eyes and in his heart. How to satisfy people's hunger? How to treat the common people? Shennong thought hard for three days and nights, and finally came up with a way. On the fourth day, he took a group of subjects from his hometown of Suizhou Lishan to the northwest mountains. They walk, walk, walk, their legs are swollen and their feet are cocooned. They still keep walking. They walk for seven, seven, forty-nine days and come to a place. I saw mountain peaks one by one, canyon one by one, the mountain is full of strange flowers and plants, I can smell the fragrance from a long distance. Shennong, as they were walking forward, suddenly a group of wolves, insects, tigers and leopards came out of the canyon and surrounded them. Shennong immediately asked his subjects to wave the whip and beat the wild animals. Some of them were beaten away and others came up. It took seven days and seven nights to drive away all the wild animals. The tiger, leopard and boa were pulled out one by one by the whip, and later became the stripes on the skin. At this time, the subjects said it was too dangerous and advised Shennong to go back. Shennong shook his head and said, "I can't go back! How can we go back to the people who are hungry, who have no food, who are sick and who have no medicine! "He said, leading into the canyon to the foot of a vast mountain. Half of the mountain is in the clouds, surrounded by knife cut cliffs. On the cliffs are waterfalls and mosses. It seems that you can't go up without a ladder to the sky. The subjects advised him to forget it and go back as soon as possible. Shennong shook his head: "can't go back! How can we go back to the people who are hungry, who have no food, who are sick and who have no medicine! "He stood on a small stone mountain, looking up at the mountain, looking down, looking left, looking right, making up his mind, trying to find a way. Later, people called the small peak he stood on "wangnongting". Then he saw a few snub nosed monkeys crawling along the hanging vines and the decaying wood on the cliff. Shennong has an idea! At that moment, he called for his subjects to cut wood poles and vines, and build a shelf against the cliff, one layer a day, from spring to summer, from autumn to winter. No matter it's windy or rainy, or snowy or frozen, they never stop working. It took a whole year and 360 stories to get to the top of the mountain. It is said that the scaffolding used by people to build buildings later was the way to learn from Shennong. Shennong with his subjects, climbing the wooden frame, on the top of the mountain, hey! The mountain is really a world of flowers and plants, red, green, white, yellow, all kinds, dense. Shennong was very fond of it. He told his subjects to guard against Wolves, insects, tigers and leopards. He personally picked flowers and plants and put them in his mouth. In order to taste all kinds of herbs here, find food and medicine for the common people, Shennong asked his subjects to plant several rows of fir on the mountain as a wall to guard against wild animals, and build a hut inside the wall to live. Later, people called the place where Shennong lived "Mucheng". During the day, he led his subjects to the mountain to taste a hundred herbs. At night, he told his subjects to set up a bonfire, and he recorded it in detail with the light of the fire: which grasses are bitter, which are hot, which are cold, which can satisfy hunger and which can cure diseases, all of which are clearly written. Once, he put a piece of grass in his mouth for a taste. Suddenly, it whirled and fell. The subjects helped him to sit up in a hurry. He knew that he was poisoned, but he could not speak any more. He had to use his last strength to point at a bright red ganoderma lucidum grass in front of him and his mouth. The subjects put the Ganoderma lucidum into his mouth and fed it to him. After eating Ganoderma lucidum, Shennong's poison gas is released. He is not dizzy and can speak. Since then, people have said that Ganoderma lucidum can bring the dead back to life. The subjects were worried that it would be too dangerous for him to taste grass like this, so they advised him to go back down the mountain. He shook his head and said, "I can't go back! How can we go back to the people who are hungry, who have no food, who are sick and who have no medicine! "Then he went on to taste the herbs. After he had tasted one mountain of flowers and plants, he went to another mountain to taste them. He still used wooden poles to build a frame to climb them. I've tasted it for 49 days and walked all over the mountains here. He tasted that wheat, rice, millet and sorghum could satisfy his hunger, so he asked his subjects to take the seeds back and let the people plant them. This was the later grain. He tasted 365 kinds of herbs and wrote Shennong materia medica Sutra, asking his subjects to take them back to cure the common people. After tasting all kinds of herbs, Shennong found grain and herbal medicine for the people. He came to Huisheng village and prepared to go back down the mountain. When he looked around, the wooden frame built all over the mountain was gone. It turns out that those wooden poles, rooted in the ground and sprouted in the rain, have grown into a vast forest over a long period of time. Shennong was in a dilemma when suddenly a group of white cranes came from the sky and took him and his bodyguards to the heavenly court. Since then, Huisheng village has been full of fragrance all year round. In order to commemorate Shennong's achievements in tasting all kinds of herbs and benefiting the world, people named this vast forest "Shennongjia". The Huisheng village, where Shennong ascended to heaven, was renamed Liuxiang village.
