Punishment by Gao Tao

Gaotao's punishment refers to the systematic revision of the original criminal law since the establishment of the patriarchal society in the period of Yushun. On the basis of the original "Xiang punishment", gaotao formulated several kinds of punishments, such as Zhe, Er, Tsing and Da PI, which laid the foundation for the five punishments of slavery in the future. In addition, banishment is regarded as the "pardon punishment" of the five punishments, whiplash as the official punishment, pounce as the religious punishment, and money as the ransom punishment.

Historical background

Slavery existed in the tribal alliance in the Yao and Shun dynasties. With the accumulation of private wealth, class differentiation was further accelerated, which made the primitive society gradually transition to class society. Gaotao punishment is closely related to this historical era.

At that time, floods were rampant. Tribal leaders, go their own way. Within the tribes, because of famine, the "common people are not close and the five qualities are not inferior", [3] the society is out of order and the people are ruined; among the tribes, wars are frequent and annexation intensifies. They not only kill prisoners in batches, but also kill slaves wantonly, bury them alive, and even engage in sacrifice, sacrifice and savage cannibalism. As a result, the "four evils" of Gan, huandou, Gonggong and Sanmiao cause chaos. Among them, Sanmiao abused the people with cruel means, opposed Yao and Shun with sinister tactics, prevented Dayu from controlling the flood and destroyed the unity of the tribes. In the process of assisting Dayu in flood control, gaotao realized that without a compulsory method, it was difficult to overcome all kinds of obstacles and achieve success. Therefore, he proposed to formulate a series of rules to restrict the behavior of tribal leaders and people. Marx: "criminals not only produce crimes, but also criminal law.". Therefore, after the flood subsided, gaotao was sentenced by Yao, and was "granted to Gao" - Lu'an.

Content of criminal law

According to the Shangshu Yaodian and gaotaomo, the contents of gaotao's punishment are as follows: "Xiang [4] is typical, with five punishments of excursion, whip as official punishment, pounce as teaching punishment, money as ransom punishment, four pardons of disaster, and the punishment of parents and thieves. Qin, Qin, only punishment. "

There have always been two interpretations of the meaning of "Xiang Xing": one is that the punishment is imposed on the portrait to make the criminals witness it; the other is that the criminals wear different clothes. This is because gaotao deeply hated the cruel methods of Sanmiao and so on, and thought that he must be lenient to the people. We should not only make the criminal know his past and repent, but also let him take this as a warning and dare not commit it. Therefore, although there are names of killing, whaling, killing, ear control and killing, they are not practical, but symbolic. This kind of punishment has the primitive simplicity of clan system, which is "based on the pursuit of justice from the lover, but not on the harm of others. It is simple in the past, and the punishment system of Tang, Yu and the three dynasties can be seen briefly.".

The "five punishments of banishment" is a kind of leniency for the corporal punishment that should be inflicted on the disabled body, that is, the sentence of banishment. According to historical records, "liugonggong, fanghuandou, chuansanmiao and Zhuo.". Liu, Fang, Qu and Shu are all different names of banishment.

"Whip as official punishment, pounce as teaching punishment". In ancient times, flogging was two different tools of punishment. Kong Ying of the Tang Dynasty said: "the official punishment and whip are all used, but the teaching punishment is only used." Pouncing on punishment is to blame the students who are not diligent in Taoism. It is said in Guoyu · Luyu that "Bo Xing uses whip to fight", which reflects gaotao's intention of making people "shameful" and correcting their mistakes.

"Money for ransom" means paying heavy metal (copper) instead of criminal law. Of course, the scope of its use is limited, otherwise Gonggong will not be exiled.

In the process of implementing these criminal laws, gaotao found that there were many shortcomings in only talking about leniency. If Sanmiao was pardoned and exiled, they didn't want to repent. Instead, they constantly incited the Miao people to revolt. Inspired by the combination of flood control and interception by Dayu, gaotao revised the criminal law many times to combine leniency and strictness. He tried to be lenient for occasional negligent crimes (he would be forgiven for all disasters), and he would be sentenced to death for those who were not guilty, such as Sanmiao and Zao. Of course, he should be cautious in the implementation of the penalty Ensure the orderly progress of the water control project, and make the Sanmiao tribe obedient.

"Zuozhuan" quoted: "Xia Shu said: faint, ink, thief, kill, gaotao punishment, please follow it." That is to say, robbery, corruption and homicide should be sentenced to death. It can be seen that gaotao's criminal law was still in circulation until the spring and Autumn period. In terms of historical records, gaotao was the first judge, and no one had ever made criminal law or judged a case according to the criminal law before that (only some slave owners and tribal leaders had ancient "divine judgment" and cruel means of doing harm to the people with strong arbitrariness); Davide, a famous contemporary French jurist, also said that Chinese law originated in the process of conquering the Miao people in ancient BC, Therefore, gaotao as the originator of Chinese justice is beyond doubt.

Other systems

Gao Tao, the forefather of justice, has made great contributions to the development of China's criminal law

(1) Reform the criminal trial system

In ancient times, the first judgment belonged to divine judgment. It is said that gaotao initially used unicorns to judge whether the suspect was guilty or not. In a certain historical stage, divine judgment was widely used. This kind of criminal trial system is called touch trial system in the history of comparative legal system.

Because touch trial often leads to unjust, false and wrong cases, and is easy to commit crimes and innocent, gaotao abolished this system absolutely, and "Fang Shi Xiang Xing" changed the criminal trial from divine judgment to human judgment, and laid the foundation for the scientific criminal trial system of conviction by evidence in later generations, which is a great progress in the development history of criminal law.

(2) Establishing the principle of crime and punishment

1. Justice in law enforcement. The guiding ideology of gaotao's law enforcement is "only clear and allow". Yiheji praised him for "only clear and clear" in his execution. He himself said that "five punishments and five uses" should be adopted. He clearly expressed the concept that punishment should be divided into five grades and crimes should be serious. He put forward the relationship between punishment and crime for the first time, and demanded that punishment be treated according to crime. "Baihutong · sage" says that "gaotao is the one who listens to the prison system"; Su Shi, a great literary giant, wrote in the treatise on punishment, reward, loyalty and kindness: in ancient times, Kong Ren committed a great crime, the generous Yao said "forgive" three, while the upright gaotao said "kill" three. Because of the justice and strictness of gaotao's law enforcement, his era is known as the flourishing age of "the people live in peace" and "there is no injustice in the world".

2. A lighter sentence. Gaotao proposed for the first time that "it's better to lose than to live up to death" and "it's better to forgive than to live up to death" (dayumo), that is to say, the conviction of suspected crimes can be lenient or postponed, and the negligent crimes, no matter how big, can be forgiven. He was always "only concerned with punishment" and was careful to use heavy punishment, especially death penalty. For this reason, he also specially stipulated "five punishments for exoneration" and "money for ransom", so that criminals can have the opportunity to avoid those cruel punishments and change their ways. Its purpose is to avoid killing good people by mistake, causing wrong cases and creating unjust imprisonment. Gaotao's idea of "rather lose than pass" is also a kind of thought of cautious punishment.

3. Different punishment for the same crime. "Four pardons for calamities, punishment for parents and thieves" and "no major forgiveness, no minor punishment" show that gaotao's sentencing is not based on the criminal's objective crime. Even if the objective crimes are the same, after considering the differences between occasional crime and recidivism, negligent crime and intentional crime, as well as whether to repent or not, the judgment is not the same.

4. Punishment of criminals should not involve their descendants. After he was killed, his son Yu was still the leader of the tribal alliance, and gaotao was still trying his best to help Dayu control the flood, and Yu succeeded Shun as the supreme leader because of his meritorious service. It can be seen that Yu was not implicated because of his father.

(3) Attach importance to education

Gaotao advocated that the five punishments should be in an auxiliary position, and those who have extreme behavior or committed crimes should first be justified, not listen to enlightenment, and then be brought to justice. The five religions are: father's righteousness, mother's kindness, brother's friends, brother's respect and son's filial piety. The purpose is to educate people to understand and abide by the most basic relationships, so that people can be friendly to each other, humble to each other, and know what to do and what not to do, so as to realize a harmonious society without criminal behavior and achieve the goal of long-term stability. Therefore, Shun highly praised gaotao: "Ru made soil, Ming in the five punishments, to bi five religions, in the hope of governance. The term of the sentence is five, and the Association for democracy and people's livelihood is in the middle of the sentence

At the 96th Congress of the inter Parliamentary Union, Su Ruhr, chairman of the IPU, said: "the rule of law is the key to civilization.". At the end of the primitive society, gaotao was a symbol of human civilization.

Relevant evaluation

The ancients all attributed the origin of ancient Chinese criminal law to gaotao, saying that gaotao was the founder of Chinese criminal law. The legend of "gaotao as punishment" reflects the ancients' understanding of the origin of Chinese criminal law, which can be said to be the first criminal legislation activity in Chinese history.

You Hu

There is the Hu family, the name of the ancient tribe, the surname Si, which is a tribe or chieftain in the Xia Dynasty.

It is said that during the reign of Yu, there was a war of "attacking the hous" and "practicing their religion". After gaining power, he held a banquet for tribal leaders in Juntai. Hu was very dissatisfied with Qi's destruction of the abdication system and refused to attend the Juntai meeting. In the name of "gongxingtian's punishment", Qi crusaded against those who disobeyed him. Therefore, there is a record in Shiji · xiabenji that "the Hu family refused to accept the attack and fought against Gansu". The result of the war was that Youhu was defeated, and xiahouqi destroyed Youhu, and its people were reduced to herders.

The battle of GaN

The battle of Gan between the two powers was very fierce. However, there are few recorded historical materials left. The main one is a mobilization order of Gan in the book of history written by Qi. The full text is as follows: "fighting in Gan is calling for six ministers. Wang said: Ho! I will swear to you that you Hu's bullying the five elements, abandoning Sanzheng, and destroying his life. I'll give you the punishment of only honoring heaven. If the left does not attack the left, you will be disrespectful of your life; if the right does not attack the right, you will be disrespectful of your life; if the emperor is not the right horse, you will be disrespectful of your life. If you use your life, reward your ancestors; if you don't use your life, kill the society. " [1-2]

The first paragraph introduces the background of the oath of Gan, which is the oath that Qi called the senior officials to declare the discipline before the war in GaN. "Liuqing" used to be interpreted as the general of the six armies. In fact, both "Liuqing" and "Liujun" appeared after the Zhou Dynasty. They were the words borrowed from later generations when the book was finished. They refer to the "person of six affairs" in the following. In ancient Chinese characters, Shi and Shi are the same word. In oracle bone inscriptions of Shang Dynasty, Shang King's "I Shi", "Zhen Shi", "Dong Shi" and "Xi Shi" often took part in the war, so it's easy to understand that after Xia Dynasty, he called "people of six things" to convey the war precepts. The second paragraph is the full text of the oath. First of all, it is announced that the charge of Youhu is "bullying the five elements and neglecting the three justice", which means that the enemy is disrespectful to the heavenly phenomena and ministers, causing anger and resentment. Therefore, attacking Youhu is a punishment on behalf of heaven. Secondly, he announced military discipline, ordered his subordinates to follow orders, be loyal to their duties, and fight hard. He also ordered that those who followed orders would be rewarded in ancestral temples, and those who disobeyed orders would be executed in front of the Social altar. Compared with the oath of Yu written by shusanmiao, it can be seen that the chief executive of Qishi was incomparable in the previous historical era.

It is said that at the beginning of Qi Dynasty, "I was defeated in fighting with you Hu family in GANZE". The reason is that "my land is not shallow, my people are not few, and I was defeated in fighting. My virtue is weak but my education is not good". So I worked hard to rule, "my relatives are long, I respect the talents and I can use my skills, and I have Hu family clothes in my old age.". It can be seen that Qi won the battle of Gan, and it was not easy to "destroy the Hu family and the Xianchao Dynasty".

Textual research on the location

There are various explanations for the "Gan" in the fierce fighting between the two sides. Most experts believe that in the area of Ganting town in Huxian County today. "Suoyin" explains: Xia Qi felled, Ganting in the south. Some experts believe that in ganyi (now Luoyang South). Some experts believe that in today's Huxian Ganhe township area. In ancient times, there was the state of GaN. It was a small and pocket country, and the largest river in the country was the Gan River. Tracing back to the origin of a Hundred Surnames holds that the surname Gan originated in Ganhe Township because it was the place of the ancient state of GaN.

Huxian, Shaanxi

According to the geography annals, Fufeng County is the state of Hu. It is said that the three characters of Hu, Hu and Shan have different ears If so, Hu's hometown should be in Huxian, southwest of Xi'an.

Yuanwu area, Henan Province

Contemporary scholars Gu Jiegang and Liu Qiqiao believe that the hometown of Hu family in Xia Dynasty is the place name "hire" in the oracle inscriptions of Yin Dynasty, which is located in Yuanwu area on the North Bank of the Yellow River in the north of Zhengzhou. At the same time, it is proved that Gandhi was the feudal capital of ganzhao Gong in the spring and Autumn period. There are Ganshui and Gancheng, which are located in the southwest of Luoyang today.

Southwest of Yuanyang, Henan

According to the literature, Mr. Zheng Jiexiang infers that the Hu family should be in the southwest of Yuanyang, Henan Province, and then proves that Gandhi is in the southern suburb of the Hu family, which should be the ganzhize or Ganshui coast of guxing county to the west of Zhengzhou. This can also be said.

Historical records

Before the battle between Qi and Youhu, he took the oath of Gan, which is recorded in the oath of Gan of Shangshu

Qi and Youhu fought in the field of GaN and wrote the oath of GaN. War in Gansu, is called six Qing. Wang said, "ho! I swear to tell you that you Hu's bullying the five elements, neglecting the three principles, and heaven's extermination of his life will be punished by heaven. If the left does not attack the left, you will be disrespectful of your life; if the right does not attack the right, you will be disrespectful of your life; if the emperor is not the right horse, you will be disrespectful of your life. If you use your life, you will be rewarded to your ancestors; if you use your life, you will be killed by the society; if you give it, you will be killed. "

Translation

The main idea is: there is going to be a big war in Gansu, so Xia Qi called the general of the Sixth Army. Wang said, "ah! Officers and men of the Sixth Army, I want to declare to you: you Hu's disobeyed God's will, despised the five elements of gold, wood, water, fire and earth, neglected or even abandoned our calendar. Therefore, if God wants to cut off their national fortune, I can only pursue God's punishment for them. If the soldiers on the left side of the chariot are not good at shooting the enemy with arrows, you will not follow my orders; if the soldiers on the right side of the chariot are not good at stabbing the enemy with spears, you will not follow my orders; if the soldiers driving in the middle do not know how to drive, you will not follow my orders. Those who obey orders will be rewarded on the ancestral throne; those who disobey orders will be executed in front of the ancestral temple, and their wives and sons will be sacrificed on the altar.

Hereditary system

"Hereditary system" refers to the inheritance system of transferring the emperor's 95% respect to his descendants after the death or abdication of the ancient monarch. Hereditary system is the inheritance of names, titles and property from generation to generation according to the blood relationship. This inheritance mainly includes the inheritance of "family", the inheritance of vassal states, and the inheritance of the world.

The ruling monarch also has succession. There may be blood relationship between monarch and monarch, but they are not necessarily lineal. Some are brothers and some are uncles and nephews. Some were ordered by the king. It is not hereditary to kill the king and seize the throne, to seize the class and power, to seek power and usurp the throne.

Establish

Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties carried out the hereditary system of the throne, which was combined with the patriarchal system. Patriarchal clan system is evolved from patriarchal system at the end of primitive society. It is a power distribution system with the basic characteristics of the eldest son inheritance system. The king is the chief in the world, and his eldest son is zongzi, who is the heir to the throne. The son of a commoner was a small clan, and the king granted him the title of a vassal, or remained in the central government as a minister or a doctor. The princes, officials or scholars were the main members of the branch, and their eldest son was the successor of the post and salary. The common son was a small clan, and then was enfeoffed. This small clan is also a large one in this branch. The deduction is endless. The king is regarded as the son of heaven, who is ordered by heaven to come to the world, so he is called "the son of heaven". This is the concept of "divine conferment of monarchical power", and since then the hereditary system of the throne has been gradually improved.

"Hereditary system" means that after the ancient emperor stepped down, he transferred the emperor's 95% respect to his son. Hereditary system is the inheritance of names, titles and property from generation to generation according to the blood relationship. This inheritance mainly includes the inheritance of "parents" and the inheritance of vassal states. The inheritance of "parents" can also be divided into paternal and matrilineal. The ruling monarch also has succession. There may be blood relationship between the monarch and the monarch, but they are not necessarily lineal. Some are brothers, some are uncles, some are nephews; some are ordered by the king, and some are to seize power and seek power to usurp the throne. Therefore, they are not hereditary.

The hereditary system could not be established after Dayu gave way to the world three times. The "abdication system" ended, and the hereditary system with the establishment of enfeoffment as the basic political system was formally established.

As soon as he gave way to the world, Shang, the son of Shun, was in Yangcheng. All the princes in the world went to the Shang Dynasty and became Yu. Yu was then the son of heaven, facing the world in the south, and the name of the state was named after Xia.

Second, the Emperor Yu established and recommended gaotao, and granted the government, but gaotao died.

Three let the world, and then take advantage of the government. Benefit from the world. Yu ziqixian, what does the world mean. And Yu collapse, although granted benefits, and the princes are to benefit and Chao Qi, said "my Emperor Yu's son also.". From then on, the abdication system of Yao and Shun came to an end, and the hereditary system of the Yellow Emperor was formally established.

It was a system passed down from generation to generation by feudal society, emperors and knights, replacing the original abdication system. The hereditary system of the throne, the hereditary system of the emperor, the feudal lords with the same surname who were enfeoffed in the early Western Han Dynasty, and the vassal system of the Tang Dynasty are all hereditary. There are two ways of hereditary system: father's death and son's succession, brother's death and brother's death.

Brief introduction

Hereditary or hereditary system is a kind of social concept that a certain authoritarian power is kept in a consanguineous family from generation to generation. It can be divided into political hereditary and economic hereditary.

In the early period of human society all over the world, there were hereditary regimes, most of which were feudal hereditary regimes. It is a kind of inheritance system of ancient titles and official positions. In the pre Qin period, China practiced the system of "Shi Qing Shi Lu", from the son of heaven and Fengjun to Gongqing, bureaucrats and scholars. Their titles, feudal capitals and official positions were inherited by father and son. The number of such heritages is theoretically unlimited, until the change of dynasty or the failure of the family occupying the title or official position in the political struggle.

Advantages and disadvantages

It is beneficial to the later political power: it is beneficial to the unification of the country, and it plays an important role in the initial establishment of the territory of the motherland; it is beneficial to the economic development; it establishes the autocratic rule of the landlord class over the broad masses of working people. The influence on later generations: the political system of centralized and autocratic rule established by Qin Dynasty is very innovative, which has laid the basic pattern of China's political system for more than 2000 years, and has been used by successive imperial dynasties, and has been continuously strengthened and improved.

The disadvantages of the hereditary system of the throne: the traditional principle of the hereditary system of the throne in Chinese history can not guarantee the optimization and sublimity of the emperor's quality because of the selection of successors within the narrow hereditary scope. Among the selected emperors, there are many young children, idiots, prodigal sons and fatuous disciples, so it is inevitable that they will bring disaster to the country and the people.

Abdication system and hereditary system

Abdication system: a way of the change of Chinese rulers, which means that the ruling monarch ceded the ruling power to others before he died. Formally, abdication was voluntarily carried out by the reigning monarch in order to let more virtuous people rule the country. Usually, abdication is to transfer power to a different surname, which will lead to the change of Dynasty, which is called "outer Zen"; while abdication to one's blood relatives with the same surname is called "inner Zen", and the abdicator is usually called "supreme emperor", which does not lead to the change of dynasty.

Breaking the previous fuzzy boundaries, the ruler is the ruler, and the ruled is always the ruled. Such a fixed social stratification can promote the development of productive forces. (the ruler thinks about how to rule, and the ruled thinks about how to serve the master and son). For example, the Shang Dynasty created a prosperous bronze civilization, while the abdication of the throne was only in a small primitive society. This is not a strict division of roles, which hinders the development of society with the progress of productive forces. It is better to divide the labor, and the hereditary throne is this kind of division The guarantee of labor.

Tushan meeting

King of Yu
The Tushan meeting is generally regarded as a landmark event of the establishment of the Xia Dynasty in China. Tushan is located in today's Yuhui District, Bengbu City, Anhui Province. It is said that after Yu built his capital Yangzhai (Yuzhou City, Henan Province), he convened the tribal leaders of Xia and Yi to Tushan, which is historically known as the Tushan meeting.

Main process

In the process of establishing the royal power, Yu continued to fight against Sanmiao. He was in charge of many monarchs, and regarded himself as pursuing the destiny, which showed that he had mastered the highest royal power and obtained the status of "Xia Hou". After a fierce battle, Sanmiao was defeated. This was a large-scale military expedition, through which the kingship of Yu was strengthened.

After the establishment of the royal power, Yu established Yangcheng (Gaocheng Town, Dengfeng County, Henan Province) as the capital city in the Yang of Songshan, where the Chongs tribe was located. Later, he moved to Yangzhai (Yuzhou City, Henan Province).

In order to consolidate the royal power, Yu went south along the Yingshui river. At Tushan (Huaiyuan County in the western suburb of Bengbu, Anhui Province) in the middle reaches of the huaishui River, he met the leaders of many states and tribes of Xia and Yi tribes. This was the "Tushan meeting". At this time, most of the original tribal leaders were transformed into hereditary nobles and became the kings of various states. This Congress is an important symbol of the formal establishment of the Xia Dynasty.

Historical records

In Zuo Zhuan, the seventh year of AI Gong, there is a record that "Yu cooperated with the princes in Tushan, holding the jade and silk among all nations", but there is no record about the meeting of Tushan in Shiji. There is also a saying in the book of the later Han Dynasty that "as for the meeting of Tushan, the princes inherited the prosperity of Yu in the Tang Dynasty, and there were also nations holding jade and silk. According to the book of mountains and seas, it is said that Yu's envoy dazhangbu came from the East pole. As for xichui, it was 233500 Li and 71 steps. However, the records in Houhanshu may have originated from Zuozhuan.

In addition, Zuozhuan records another meeting of Tushan called by King Mu of Zhou Dynasty in the Western Zhou Dynasty. In Zuo Zhuan, there is a record of "Mu Youtu mountain meeting". It is also mentioned that "King Mu had the meeting of Tushan" in the annotation of "Shiji chushijia".

Follow up impact

After the establishment of the Xia Dynasty, Dayu enfeoffed many vassal states on the basis of the former Prince sun vassal states. In order to review the number of vassal states in the world and maintain the relationship between Xia Dynasty and vassal states, Dayu decided to hold a meeting of vassal states. Because it was time for all the princes to come to the court, Xia Yu took the opportunity to hold the suburban sacrifice ceremony, and all the princes stayed in Yangcheng to help sacrifice. At the time of sacrifice, Dayu bowed his head and prayed deeply. The first part is to pray for the blessings of the country and the year for the people. The second part says that the world will receive the blessings of Shun, and that the sages will be passed on in the future. They will never have a family name, which means that they will receive the blessings of the saints: "I'd like to find out that among the officials, Gao Tao is the only one who has achieved the wisdom of the saints and has made great achievements and virtues "。

After the sacrifice, the princes scattered and gathered again. We are deeply dissatisfied with Dayu. One of the princes said: "it's really funny that he recommended gaotao to heaven. Gaotao was dying of old age and was in danger. Who didn't know? Isn't it true that he wants Zen to be in his place? "One of the princes continued:" I heard that the son of Xiayu Qi had gathered countless confidants and wanted to inherit the throne. Where was Dayu willing to pass on the sages? "Later, all the unsatisfied princes went back.

After Dayu's suburban sacrifice, he was puzzled to see that there were as many as thirty kingdoms who refused to accept and left. By calculation, the number of countries that are not satisfied is more in the East and south. So Dayu decided to hold a meeting of Dukes in Tushan, Southeast of Yangcheng, as soon as possible to review his mistakes. The Tushan meeting is generally regarded as a landmark event of the establishment of the Xia Dynasty in China. On the day of the formal meeting, Dayu wore a Dharma suit and stood on the stage with xuangui in his hand. The four princes were divided into two sides according to the direction of his territory. They all saluted Dayu and Dayu also saluted him on the stage. After the ceremony, Xia Yu said to the princes in a loud voice: "I am weak in virtue and not good enough to convince the public. I call you to hold this meeting in the hope that you will understand the sincere reproach, discipline and exhortation, so that I can know and correct my mistakes. Although I have done a little bit of hard work, what I have been most cautious about in my life is arrogance. The former Emperor often admonished me with this saying: "if you are not proud, the world will not compete with you; if you are not proud, the world will not compete with you". If I am proud, please tell me face to face, otherwise it will teach me to be unkind! I am all ears to your teachings. "We all know that Yu was appointed by heaven, and the princes who had originally had opinions on him also showed respect and admiration when they saw his attitude, which eliminated their original doubts.

At this conference, all the princes brought gifts of congratulation, including jade from big countries and silk from small countries. According to historical records, "the princes of Yuhui were in Tushan, holding jade and silk from all countries.". After Dayu enjoyed all the princes, he rewarded them again and declared the tribute law, requiring that they must pay according to the rules. At the same time, Dayu also said that he would do his best to protect the rights of the vassal states from infringement by neighboring countries. After the Tushan meeting, the princes left happily. Dayu also led his officials back to Yangcheng, the capital. On the way to the capital, there was an urgent report saying that gaotao had passed away. Dayu was very sad to hear that. After returning to the capital, he recommended Boyi to heaven. In this way, when the suspicious princes knew that they had misunderstood Dayu, they firmly supported Dayu and at the same time actively offered all kinds of tributes.

In order to show his respect, the princes from all sides often came to Yangcheng to offer "gold", that is, bronze. Later, the amount of copper presented by Kyushu increased year by year. Dayu remembered that the Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan's Ding had been made. In order to commemorate the Tushan meeting, he prepared to cast "gold" presented by all the princes into several big Ding. However, in order not to be blamed by the princes, Dayu, after careful consideration, decided which state's tribute, and used it to cast the tripod of which state, and cast the mountains and rivers situation of which state on it. And cast all kinds of strange animals and gods and monsters on the tripod, so that the people of Kyushu know which one is God and which one is traitor.

A few months later, Dayu had been in power for five years. Xia Yu inherited the system of Emperor Shun, and also went hunting at the age of five. After returning from the hunting tour, the magnificent nine tripods were cast, namely Jizhou tripod, Yanzhou tripod, Qingzhou tripod, Xuzhou tripod, Yangzhou tripod, Jingzhou tripod, Yuzhou tripod, Liangzhou tripod and Yongzhou tripod. On the tripod are the famous mountains and rivers, birds and animals of various states. Nine tripods symbolize nine states, among which Yuzhou tripod is the central tripod, and Yuzhou is the central hub. Jiuding was concentrated in Yangcheng, the capital of Xia Dynasty, which showed that Dayu, the king of Xia, became the leader of Jiuzhou, and the world was unified from then on. Jiuding then became the place of "destiny" and the symbol of the supremacy of monarchy and the unity and prosperity of the country. Dayu called Jiuding the treasure of Zhenguo. When all the princes came to the court, they all paid homage to Jiuding. Since then, Jiuding has become the most important ritual vessel in the country. Later, Xia Dynasty was destroyed by Shang Dynasty, and Jiuding was moved to Haoyi, the capital of Shang Dynasty. The Shang Dynasty was destroyed by the Zhou Dynasty, and the nine tripods were moved to the ho capital of the Zhou Dynasty. Later, King Cheng built a new capital in Luoyi, and placed the nine tripods in Luoyi, which is called Dingding. This is the so-called "tripod in the country, tripod lost, the country died.". Jiuding, as the treasure of Zhenguo and the tripod of Chuanguo, was only handed down for three generations. About 2000 years later, it disappeared mysteriously due to frequent wars on weekends. So far, it has become an eternal mystery.

Legend

At the same time, he had to fight. During the period of Yu, there were two decisive Wars: the war with Gonggong and Sanmiao.

Gonggong family failed to control the flood before Dayu. With jealousy, he didn't want to see Dayu's success, so he tried every means to direct the flood to kongsang mountain (now Qufu, Shandong Province) where Dayu was. After kongsang mountain was submerged, the water control project had to stop temporarily.

At that time, Tu Shan had a strong military force, and was the most powerful among all parties in the Central Plains. Gaotao was the leader of Tushan family, and Yu appointed gaotao as the criminal officer. The two families formed a strong political alliance and gave strong support to Dayu's flood control. According to the book of Shun, Yu was Sikong, gaotao was a scholar, and Boyi was Yu. After Yu was the emperor, gaotao and boyiti took the lead, and the Tushan family became the most important force of the Xia family. In order to further obtain the support of his wife and family, Dayu and nvjiao held an emergency military meeting in Tushan, preparing to fight to the death with Gonggong. According to Zuo Zhuan, "Yu Hui's princes lived in Tushan, holding jade and silk among all nations"; historical records says: "the prosperity of Xia was also based on Tushan.". It was the Tushan society that established Yu's position as the world leader. The people who went to court to see Yu were all holding jade and silk, and the ceremony was very grand. After the meeting began, Fangfeng, a tribal leader named Wang Mang's Fang state, was bribed by the Gonggong, intending to ignore Dayu's orders. Dayu made a quick decision and killed Fangfeng at the meeting to make an example. This shows that at that time, Yu had changed from the leader of the tribal alliance to the real king. This made the monarchs of all the participating countries deeply afraid, so they had to listen carefully to the command of Dayu. Gonggong was soon defeated by Dayu, but XiangLiu, Gonggong's minister, was unconvinced and tried to continue to resist. XiangLiu is greedy and often snatches people's food. People describe him as having nine heads and eating amazing food. Every time he eats food from nine mountains. Dayu then led the attack and killed XiangLiu. Gonggong knew that he was not Yu's opponent, so he escaped. It is said that he was killed by Zhu Rong in the end.

Another accomplice of Gonggong, he Bo, saw that the situation was not right, and his attitude changed sharply. He made a 180 degree turn, jumped out of the river and offered "Luoshu" for leniency.

At the Tushan meeting, Dayu praised the meritorious, rewarded the meritorious and punished the evildoers. Dayu appointed gaotao as his prime minister and nvjiao as his concubine. He left Qi in Tushan's country for cultivation and continued to seek the support of his wife and family. To commemorate the victory over the flood, Yu used the copper produced in Kyushu at that time to cast nine tripods, which were carved with strange animals and birds to represent Kyushu. Therefore, the nine tripods became the symbol of future state power. Dayu originated from the people and had strong people-oriented thought. Based on enriching the people, he made frequent visits to understand the situation of the people and to visit the talented people. Hang the bell, drum, chime and duo in front of the hall and issue a notice: those who teach me to beat the drum, those who teach me to beat the bell, those who tell me to do justice, those who tell me to shake the duo, those who tell me about difficulties, and those who complain. At the beginning of the imperial edict, the sages all over the world came upon hearing of it.

Soon, Dayu directed the final war against Sanmiao. This was a large-scale military expedition, through which the kingship of Xia Yu was strengthened.

Chiyou, the chieftain of the Jiuli tribe, was divided into nine groups, also known as "Jiuli", which was later known as "Sanmiao". He first lived in the Yellow River Basin and was killed when he failed to fight with the Yellow Emperor. In the era of Zhuanxu and DIHE, "Jiuli" developed rapidly while Gonggong competed with Zhuanxu and DIHE for the throne. Zhuan Xu defeated Sanmiao many times. In the Yao and Shun dynasties, Sanmiao rose again and was defeated again.

After Yu inherited the leader of Huaxia tribal alliance, Sanmiao stirred up trouble again. In order to further expand the living space of primitive residents and unify the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, it has become an urgent national strategy. Therefore, Yu decided to fight a large-scale war against Sanmiao. Before Yu sent out his troops, a grand religious ceremony was held in the ancestral temple to offer sacrifices to heaven and ancestors.

Yu, holding xuangui in his hand, said, "Sanmiao is in chaos. Heaven will punish them. Because they did not listen to enlightenment, rebelled many times and killed innocent people. Now, there are demons everywhere. They are born strange. The sun shines at night, and it rains blood for three days. In the hot summer, they even ice. The five grains planted in the field have also changed. Green dragons appear in ancestral temples. Dogs howl in the city. People are frightened and complain. I have been ordered by heaven and my ancestors to fight against them. I hope that we can work together and fight bravely to wipe out those guilty people. " This is the famous Shangshu Yugong in history.

Sanmiao saw that Yu led his army to fight, and hastily led the people to resist. However, the army led by Yu was well-trained, high morale and extremely strong, and the three Miao people were defeated and defeated. Soon after the war, the leader was shot to death by the archers of the Dongyi tribe. The leader was killed, the Miao army was in chaos, and they fled for their lives. Most of them fled to the southwest and were gradually integrated by the local aboriginal tribes. It is said that the Miao people who live in Hunan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Yunnan, Sichuan and Guizhou today are the descendants of the three Miao people.

Yu conquered Sanmiao and unified the Yangtze River Basin. After that, there was a rare peaceful and prosperous society in China.

Abdication

Abdication means that the ruler gives up the leader's position to others before he died. "Zen" means "strongly recommend in front of his ancestors" and "abdication" means "abdicate the emperor's position".

Yao was a well-known leader of the tribal alliance after the Yellow Emperor. Before Yao died, Yao gave the position of leader of the tribal alliance to Shun and promoted Shun as emperor. This kind of abdication is called "abdication" in history.

Tang Yao passed the throne to Yu Shun, and Yu Shun passed the throne to Dayu, which became the national philosophy of governing the country for five thousand years.

From generation to generation, people have honored Yao, Shun, and Yu as the ancient kings. Yao, Shun, and Yu passed on: "people's mind is only in danger, Tao's mind is only tiny, and the essence is the only one. They are willing to hold on to the truth.

History

Survey

The system of Chinese leaders in the period of five emperors in ancient China (2337-2110 BC). Before the implementation of the "abdication" system, that is, in the "three emperor era" (2607-2338 BC), the system of succession by blood was implemented, in which the father died and the son succeeded, the elder brother died and the younger brother succeeded. The highest leader of the country was born in the family of Feng. The system was abolished in 2338 BC. The five emperors' era is the so-called "public world" era, in which a system of "imitating the father to die and the son to succeed, the elder brother to end and the younger brother to succeed" was implemented to produce the state leaders. This is a non lineage or "imitating lineage" system of succession to the throne. From the Yellow Emperor, the throne was not passed on to the eldest son. Huang Di's surname is Ji, and Zen is located in SHAOHAO, Ying's surname; SHAOHAO Zen is located in Zhuanxu, Huang's grandson; Zhuanxu's first pass is located in his eldest son (called "Ru Di"); Ru Di died early; the throne is inherited by he, the son of Zhuanxu, who is Huang's great grandson; DIHE's pass is located in dizhi, his son; dizhi Zen is located in Yao, Yiqi's stepbrother; Diyao Zen is located in Shun, Yao's surname; and Dishun Zen is located in Yu, Si's surname.

It is said that when Yao was old, he held a meeting of the tribal alliance, and all the tribal leaders elected Shun as their successor. Yao then assessed Shun for three years, thought that he was competent, and ordered Shun Regent. Shun's achievements were affirmed by all parties, so Emperor Yao held a abdication ceremony and strongly recommended Shun as his successor in front of the ancestral tablet in the ancestral temple. After Yao died, Shun took over as the leader of the country. After Shun succeeded to the throne, he also used the same method to select national leaders. After the test of flood control, all parties agreed with Dayu's performance, so Emperor Shun held a abdication ceremony and strongly recommended Dayu as his successor in front of the ancestral tablet in the ancestral temple. Yu became the leader of the country after Shun died. After Yu succeeded to the throne, he appointed Gao Tao and Bo Yi as alternate successors in the same way, but it seems that there was no formal abdication ceremony. This practice of democratic consultation by the vassals reflects the complicated tribal political situation in the era of the five emperors in China, and is the result of tribal political wrestling. The first dynasty recorded in Chinese history. According to historical records, the Xia Dynasty was the first country in Chinese history established by Yu's son, Qi Qi, in addition to the traditional tribal "abdication" system. The system of abdication was replaced by the system of abdication, which became the hereditary system of the throne. After that, all the dynasties went together. The system of abdication exists in name but dies in reality (the so-called "survival in name" means that there was still a major ceremony of abdication before the hereditary system was implemented in the later dynasties. For example, when the Shang Dynasty was founded, Shangtang held a meeting of 3000 princes, at which Shangtang "abdicated the throne three times"; when the Ming Dynasty was founded, Zhu Yuanzhang also "abdicated the throne three times". "San rang Wang" is not so much a political performance as a relic of the ancient abdication system.

The age of legend

It is said that after the Yellow Emperor, he visited three famous leaders, Yao, Shun and Yu. There are many records about their "abdication" in ancient books.

Yao, named Tao Tang, was the son of DIHE and the fifth grandson of Huangdi. He lived in Pingyang (now Linfen County, Shanxi Province). Yao became the leader of the tribal alliance. He lived in a thatched cottage like everyone else. He ate brown rice and cooked wild vegetables to make soup. In summer, he wore coarse linen clothes. In winter, he only added a piece of deerskin to keep out the cold. His clothes and shoes would never be changed until they were in tatters. The common people supported him as if they loved his parents.

After 70 years in power, Yao was old. His son, Danzhu, is very rough and noisy. Some people recommended Dan Zhu to succeed to the throne, but Yao did not agree. Later, Yao held a meeting of the tribal alliance to discuss the selection of successors. Everyone recommended Yu Shun, saying that he was a very capable person with both ability and political integrity. Yao was very happy and married his two daughters, e Huang and nu Ying, to shun. After three years of testing, he abdicated the throne to shun.

Shun, with the surname of Yu, is said to be the seventh grandson of Zhuan Xu, who was born in Zhufeng (now in Shandong Province) nine times away from the Yellow Emperor. After taking over the throne, Shun cultivated, fished and made pottery himself, which was deeply loved by everyone. Through the tribal alliance meeting, he made eight yuan manage land, eight Kai manage education, contract manage civil affairs, benefit manage mountains and rivers, Boyi manage sacrifice, gaotao make punishment, and improved the social management system. He also followed Yao's example and held a meeting of candidates for the throne to discuss democratically. Yu was chosen as the successor. Shun was in poor health in his later years. He still went to the south for inspection. He died on his way to Cangwu (now in Hunan Province). After Shun died, Yu became the leader of the tribal alliance.

The historical legend of Yao and Shun's abdication reflects the democratic system of ancient China.

Sanmiao

Sanmiao, together with huandou, Gonggong and Gan, are called "four crimes". The name of the ancient tribe from the time of Emperor Huang to Yao, Shun and Yu in Chinese legend. It is also called "Youmiao". There are some in the northwest and some in the south of the Yangtze River.

Tribal origin

The name of the tribe from the Yellow Emperor to Yao, Shun and Yu in ancient Chinese legend. It is also called "Youmiao".

Origin

Redords of the Grand History of China

It is recorded in Volume I of historical records, the first chapter of the five emperors' annals that "huandou came to talk about Gonggong, and Yao said that he could not try Gongshi, and Gonggong was successful. Yao thought that it was impossible for the four mountains to control the flood. Yue Qiang asked him to have a try, but he failed, so it was inconvenient for the people. Sanmiao was in chaos in Jianghuai and Jingzhou, so shungui came to the emperor and asked him to work together in Youling to change Beidi; fanghuandou was in Chongshan to change Nanman; Sanmiao was moved to Sanwei to change Xirong; Zhuo was in Yushan to change Dongyi: four sins make the whole world Xianfu. "

Here we quote the translation of Xie Huiquan and Zhang Deping: "Huan Dou once recommended Gonggong, but Yao said" no way ". Huan Dou tried his craftsman, and Gonggong really indulged in heresy. Siyue once recommended him to control the flood. Yao said, "no way." but Siyue insisted on trying, but it was not effective. So all officials thought it was not suitable. Sanmiao has caused many disturbances in the Yangtze River, Huaihe River Basin and Jingzhou area. At this time, Shun came back to report to Emperor Yao, asking for Gonggong to be exiled to Youling to turn it into Beidi; huandou to Chongshan to turn it into Nanman; Sanmiao to dashanwei mountain to turn it into Xirong; and ganliu to Yushan to turn it into Dongyi. After punishing these four sinners, the whole world is convinced. " This may be the reason why Sanmiao was moved, and it is also a historical statement about Sanmiao.

Legend

When Yao was in power, Sanmiao was in trouble. Yao sent troops to fight in Danshui to defeat Sanmiao. During the period of Yu, Sanmiao was not satisfied. Yu and Sanmiao had a 70 day war. Since then, Sanmiao disappeared in historical records. Since then, there have been no more Sanmiao activities in historical records.

Myths and legends

The southern clan group in the legendary period. It is also called "Sanmiao" and "Youmiao". Its location, there are northwest, that is, Gansu area, south of the Yangtze River said. Scholars in Han and Wei dynasties say that Sanmiao is a descendant of Jiuli tribe with Chiyou as its king. Yao fought with Sanmiao in Danshui area, and banished some of them to Sanwei. Yu attacked Sanmiao and defeated the Miao division. Sanmiao disappeared in historical records.

"Liu Tao" said: "Yao had Miao in Danshui, and" Lu's spring and Autumn Annals · Zhao Lei "said" Yao fought Danshui to subdue Nanman ". Some scholars believe that the three Miao editions of the ancient books are in the north and have nothing to do with the southwest ethnic minorities of later generations.

Historical evolution

In Jiangxi Province, south of the Yangtze River, since the Han Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty, there have been many families with Wei as their surname. According to the research of scholars in previous dynasties, they may be the descendants of Sanmiao. This is exactly what Wang Fu, a scholar of the Eastern Han Dynasty, said in his Qianfu Lun: "Wei's family, after Sanmiao.".

Shun's father was stubborn, his mother was stubborn, and his younger brother was inferior. He wanted to kill Shun many times, but he was finally rescued by the help of E's daughter Ying. Shun succeeded Yao and was the concubine of the daughter of e emperor Ying. Later, Shun went to the south for inspection and died in Cangwu. The two imperial concubines went to find out that Emperor Shun was dead and buried in the foot of Jiuyi mountain. They held the bamboo and cried bitterly. Their tears dyed the green bamboo and died. They were called "Xiaoxiang bamboo" or "Xiangfei bamboo". Since the Qin and Han Dynasties, the love myth between Xiangjun, the God of Xiangjiang River, and xiangmadame has evolved into the legend of Shun, e emperor and nvying. Later generations called the second daughter "Madam Xiang" because of her association.

Role experience

E Huang NV Ying is a character in ancient mythology. More than 4000 years ago, Emperor Shun's second imperial concubine (e Huang Nu Ying), Yao saw that Shun had both political integrity and ability, was upright, fair, hardworking and popular, so he abdicated his position as leader to shun (although there are other records, let's discuss it for a moment), and married his two daughters, e Huang Nu Ying, to shun. The two sisters gave birth to Shang Jun, a son of Shun.

When the second daughter married Shun, who was the official palace and who was the concubine, Yao and his wife argued endlessly. It is said that King Shun was going to move to Puban at that time. Yao ordered his two daughters to start from Pingyang to Puba at the same time. Which one came first, which one was the main palace; which one came later, which one was the partial imperial concubine. After listening to her father's words, e Huang's daughter Ying prepared to go to Pu ban. E Huang is a simple girl, so she strides across a big horse and gallops forward. And nvying talks about ostentation, goes by car, and chooses to drive by mule. But in the hot summer, the animal was sweating. Passing by the north of Xiyang village, he met a stream. The second daughter took a break to let the animals drink to quench their thirst so that they could continue on their way. On the way, however, the mule that nvying was driving was about to give birth to a foal, so the car stopped. At this time, e Huang's horse has been galloping in the distant journey, and nvying was influenced by the mule to give birth to a colt, and was far behind. The position of empress Zhenggong was captured by e emperor. She was angry and scolded mules for not giving birth to foals in the future. Therefore, it is said that mules who do not conceive and have no foals are all sealed by nvying.

Later generations will be two female livestock drinking place, called e Ying spring, Xiangfen County, near Xiyang village.

It is also said that Emperor Shun visited the Yangtze River after 39 years in power. Unfortunately, he died in the field of Cangwu and was buried on Mount Jiuyi. After hearing the bad news, the two ladies went to the south to look for King Shun. Two girls are on the edge of Xiangjiang River, looking at Jiuyi mountain, crying bitterly. Their tears are splashed on the bamboos, and the bamboos become the "spotted bamboos" in the south. The "spotted bamboos" are also called Xiangfei bamboos. When Shun died, the empress of E-Huang and her daughter Ying jumped into the surging Xiangjiang River and became the goddess of Xiangjiang River. They were called Xiang Jun (Shun), Xiang Fei (E-Huang and her daughter Ying) or Xiang Madame.

The Chu people mourned and changed the name of Dongting mountain to Junshan, and built tombs and temples for them. In fact, the tomb is also simple and crude. In front of the tomb, there is a tombstone with a big book "Tomb of Emperor Yu's two concubines". There are stone steps in front of the tomb, and a passageway paved with stone below the stone steps. On both sides of the stone tablets are carved the portraits of the two imperial concubines and the excellent works of poets of all ages: on the north side are the Xiangjun and xiangmadame in Qu Yuan's Lisao; on the south side are the chanting poems of Tang and Song Dynasties and even modern people; on the prosperous Tang Dynasty, Li Bai, Chang Jian and Liu Yuxi; on the Qing Dynasty, zhao gu; and on the modern people, Lu Xun also have the sentence of "I don't know where to hang Xiangjun" . In front of the tomb, a pair of watchposts, nearly 3 meters high, are engraved with a couplet inscribed by Shu Shaoliang: "the two spirits of the monarch and the imperial concubine are eternal; all the bamboos and bamboos are spotted and one person is in tears.". There are many bamboos around the tomb of Xiang imperial concubine. There are spots on the bamboos, which look like tears. It is said that the two imperial concubines shed tears on Emperor Shun before they threw into Xiang River. There is a poem in gaopian of Tang Dynasty that says, "Emperor Yu's visit to the south does not return, and the two imperial concubines complain about the clouds and water. How much blood and tears did you know at that time? Up to now, bamboo is still spotted. " In 1961, Chairman Mao Zedong, after listening to the report on Hunan's production and construction from his hometown Hunan, was excited and wrote down the brilliant poem "Qilu · answering friends". At the beginning, he expressed his emotion by borrowing the allusions of Shun and Mrs. Xiang: "white clouds fly on Jiuyi mountain, and the emperor is green under the wind. A thousand tears of bamboos and a hundred heavy clothes of rosy clouds. "

Anecdotes of characters

E Huang's daughter Ying was Yao's daughter-in-law and Shun's daughter-in-law in ancient times. At the beginning, in order to choose a good successor, Emperor Yao sent his two precious daughters to marry Shun and work as "undercover" around him to test the virtues of Shun, the candidate leader of the country.

Shun's family relationship was complicated. His father was blind and confused. Shun's mother died early. His father and mother married him a stepmother and gave birth to two half children. His younger brother is Xiang, and his younger sister is Yongshou. It is conceivable that it is a challenging job to be a good daughter-in-law in such a family. Fortunately, these two beauties are very virtuous. They never make trouble because of their noble birth. They have always been very considerate to the sons and daughters of the Shun family. Therefore, the records of the historian praised them as "very feminine.". It's a pity that Shun's stepmother can't tolerate him, and always wants to kill him, so that she can take all the property over to her parents and children. One year, Emperor Yao was very happy because of Shun's outstanding achievements, so he gave his son-in-law some rewards. Among them were clothes (xigebu clothes) and a piano. In addition, he helped him build a barn and gave some cattle and sheep. It was these seemingly ordinary gifts that made stepmother's heart beat. What's more, Shun's dazed father was so confused that he took an active part in the "family conspiracy". As a daughter-in-law, the daughter-in-law of e Huang, although she is in the eye, can only be anxious in the heart. Because if they give their husband a "little report" and blow "pillow side wind", they will be suspected of destroying the "harmonious family". Moreover, as the future "first ladies", their every move is related to the demonstration and enlightenment significance of "Motherhood". Therefore, they take a cautious approach to the internal contradictions of the "first family", and can only take more precautions secretly to protect their husbands.

Once, he asked Shun to paint on the roof (mend the barn with soil). Before working, Shun first "asked" the two wives. The wives said that they would go, but they must bring two hats. Shun very listen to his wife's words, then obediently with two hats, climb on the roof to work. As soon as he went up, the old man and the elephant immediately took away the ladder and set it on fire. At this time, the two hats came in handy. Shun took one in one hand and jumped down from the room as if he had wings. Once again, he asked Shun to dig a well. As soon as Shun got down to the bottom of the well, his father and brother rushed to fill the well with earth and wanted to bury him alive. Fortunately, Shun's two wives had been cultivated by his father-in-law, his mother-in-law and his younger brother-in-law's endless "conspiracy" and "conspiracy". They let Shun dig a secret passage on the side wall of the well in advance, and then they saved their lives.

From the analysis of the above events, including the circumstantial evidence that "the father is stubborn and the mother is noisy" in the history books, Shun's father may have some brain problems, otherwise, he can't understand why he wanted to kill his son, and he is still so happy. Judging from common sense, it is only this kind of possibility that Shun will listen to his wife's words, and he and his two wives can be so tolerant and magnanimous.

According to a reasonable guess, a series of conspiracy events may be greedy, like a mastermind. This can be seen from the conversation when he and his parents are going to divide up Shun's property. At that time, after filling the well, Xiang thought that Shun would surely die, so he immediately asked for credit and said, "this idea came from me." Then he said generously, "I'll take the two wives of Shun and the Qin that Yao gave him. I'll take the cattle, the sheep and the barn."

When Xiang can't wait to run to shun's house and play with Shun's piano, Shun comes in from the outside. The elephant was very surprised and embarrassed. He immediately put on a sullen look and said, "I'm thinking of you. I'm so bored!" Shun said, "yes, you are really a brother." According to the history books, after the baptism of "domestic violence", Shun was still kind-hearted, served his parents and brothers as before, and was more respectful.

All this shows that Shun is a very sensible person, and his two wives can read such a difficult "family classic" so smoothly, which shows how smart and virtuous they are. With their wisdom and tolerance, they not only greatly improved Shun's reputation, but also defused the family crisis skillfully. It's no wonder that later generations listed the two in the biography of Lienv as the first in the biography of Mu Yi, saying that "the two imperial concubines were virtuous and virtuous", and even praised them for the heavyweight words in the book of songs, such as "not showing only virtue, but also punishing them".

Finally one day, without telling her father, the girl drove a boat to the place where the sun rose in the East China Sea. Unfortunately, before she saw the sunrise, there was a strong wind on the sea, and the waves overturned her boat like a mountain. The girl fell into the sea and was engulfed by the merciless sea. She would never come back.

Emperor Yan was very sad when he heard about the death of the girl, but he could not shine the sun on the girl's body to bring her back to life. After the girl died, her soul was transformed into a bird, calling "Jingwei, Jingwei". Later, people called the bird "Jingwei".

Related Legends

The sun god "Yandi" has a daughter, who is an underage girl. People in Central Plains call the child "WA". This little girl is called "Nu Wa" by everyone. Emperor Yan not only cares about the sun, but also about grains and medicinal materials. Therefore, his other name is "Shennong". Sometimes, people connect his two names and call him "Shennong Yandi". Shennong Yandi had many things to do. Early in the morning, he went to Donghai to command the sun to rise, and didn't go home until the sun set.

Nuwa is a sensible and good child. When her father is not at home, she plays by herself. She often wears a pair of small red shoes and runs to the field, putting a lot of flowers on her head, dressed beautifully. She was in the field watching the red sun rising from the East, happily bathed in the sun, enjoying the surrounding vitality. Everything grows in the sun, birds and animals exult in the sun, she is very proud, because her father brings the light and warmth of the earth.

Sometimes, she went to the East China Sea to watch the sunrise. When she saw the glow of the sun, a round of red sun jumping out of the sea, she liked it very much. So I really want to see the place where the sun rises outside the East China Sea.

However, the girl was too young for Emperor Yan to take her. Because the place where the sun rises is in Guixu, hundreds of millions of miles away from the East China Sea. It's so hot that children can't stand it.

The girl is always angry about it. The mysterious Guixu is so attractive. Once, she was disobedient. After her father left, she jumped into the East China Sea and swam to Guixu.

Swim, swim, at first she was very happy, swimming very hard. Later, he swam farther and farther. Unexpectedly, a gust of wind and waves came and engulfed the girl.

The girl sank into the East China Sea and never came back.

However, the soul of the girl did not die. She hated the evil waves in the sea. Her spirit turned into a bird, the wild flowers on her head into a pattern on her forehead, and the little red shoes on her feet turned into red claws. She vowed to fill the East China Sea!

In order to strengthen their own strength, Jingwei and petrels formed a spouse, reproduction, so that their spirit passed down from generation to generation, in order to continue the cause of reclamation, until the sea is filled up. Jingwei and Haiyan give birth to children, the female is like Jingwei, the male is like Haiyan.

Jingwei bird kept carrying stones and branches from the west mountain and throwing them to the East Sea. Throw it in the morning, at night, then, and finally. Even in a storm, it also travels through the wind and rain. Sometimes, it is too close to the surface of the water, and the sea waves engulf it again. However, it still does not stop, and there are new Jingwei birds to continue to fill the sea.

Jingwei's reclamation of the sea stirred the gods. Shuishen Gonggong admired Jingwei's spirit, so he brought down the flood, washed the sediment on the plateau into the sea, and made the sea yellow. Therefore, the Yellow Sea area in the northern part of the East China Sea is called "Yellow Sea".

When the sea finds that it is really in danger of being filled up, it takes measures to push the sediment to the shore with the tide, and the sediment settles down on the shore, forming a sea beach. When the tideland became thick and large, people surrounded it and transformed it into fertile land.

People can't forget that this land is reclaimed from Jingwei, so they educate their children and grandchildren to love and protect birds from generation to generation, learn the spirit of Jingwei, and work hard towards the established goal unswervingly.

Xingtian is a legendary figure in ancient Chinese mythology. He wields a huge axe and shield. He is a strong and huge giant in ancient times. After losing his head, he fights against the Yellow Emperor again with his breasts as his eyes and navel as his mouth.

According to the book of mountains and seas, the overseas West Scripture: "Xingtian and the emperor fought for the gods here. The emperor cut off his head and buried the mountain of Changyang with milk as the eye, navel as the mouth, and dry Qi as the dance."

Life of the characters

Myths and legends

Xing Tian was a nameless giant. In the war with the Yellow Emperor, he was beheaded by the Yellow Emperor, which is called Xing Tian. Heaven, bump also, bump is a person's forehead; Punisher, kill also, cut, mow meaning.

When Emperor Yan was still in charge of the world, Xing Tian was a minister under Emperor Yan. He loved songs very much in his life. He composed music "Fu Li" and poem "Feng Shou" for Emperor Yan, with the general name of "Bu Mou" to praise the happy life of the people at that time.

Later, Yandi was defeated by Huangdi in the battle of Hanquan, but his son and his men were not convinced. When Chiyou raised his army against the Yellow Emperor, Xing Tian wanted to fight against the Yellow Emperor, but he didn't succeed because of Yan's resolute prevention. Chiyou and the Yellow Emperor were defeated in the first World War. Chiyou was killed. Xingtian could no longer restrain his anger, so he secretly left the southern Tianting and went straight to the central Tianting to compete with the Yellow Emperor.

Xing Tian, holding a bronze shield in his left hand and a big axe in his right hand, went to the palace of the Yellow Emperor. The Yellow Emperor saw that Xing Tiansha was coming. He was very angry and took up his sword to fight with Xing Tiansha. Two people from the palace to the palace, from heaven to earth, straight to Changyang mountain.

The Yellow Emperor is experienced and experienced. Taking advantage of Xingtian's lack of defense, he slashed Xingtian's neck with his sword. Xingtian's Parry was not enough, and his head was cut down. The head of Xingtian who fell to the ground rolled down the slope to the foot of Changyang mountain. Xingtian, who was decapitated, squatted down to find his head. Because of losing his eyes, he didn't see his head at the foot of Changyang mountain where he was.

The Yellow Emperor worried that Xingtian would return to his original body after finding his head and fight with him again, so he took up his sword and cleaved to Changyang mountain. With a loud noise, Changyang mountain was cut in half, and Xingtian's huge head was rolling into the valley. Later, the two mountains merged into one, burying Xing Tian's head in it.

Xingtian felt the changes around him and knew that the Yellow Emperor had buried his head in the mountainside, but he was not discouraged. He stood up, still with an axe in his right hand and a shield in his left, waving wildly around the sky. In the dark abyss of Xingtian fury, with two nipples as eyes, open navel as mouth, continue to fight with the Yellow Emperor.

Although Xingtian failed, his spirit of never compromising always inspires future generations. Tao Yuanming, a great poet of the Jin Dynasty, praised the spirit of Xingtian in his poems. In the poem, he said, "Xingtian dances with Ganqi, and his ambition is always strong."

Character experience

According to the book of mountains and seas, the overseas west classic, Xingtian and the emperor fought for God here, and the emperor cut off his head and buried him in the mountain of Changyang. Is to milk for the eyes, to the navel for the mouth, dry Qi to dance.

Xingtian is Xingtian. Xingtian and the Yellow Emperor fought for the throne here. The Yellow Emperor cut off his head and buried him in Changyang mountain. Xing Tian used two breasts as his eyes and his navel as his mouth to dance.

Comments: ever since then, Changyang mountain has been overcast with clouds. The blue sky never opens, and the thunder reverberates in the valley from time to time. It is said that it was the defeated hero Xingtian, who was always fighting against the enemy with his arms waving.

Song Xingkai's Tan Zhai Tong Bian quoted Duan Chengshi's Za Zu: "there are beasts in Tianshan Mountain, which are named Xing Tian. When the Yellow Emperor fought with the emperor for God, he cut off his head and said, "I take milk as my eye and navel as my mouth." I can't stop dancing. "

Poetry records

Tao Yuanming wrote in his poem reading the book of mountains and seas:

Jingwei holds the title of Weimu, which will fill the sea. Xingtian dance Ganqi, Meng Zhigu often.

The same thing has no worries, and no regrets. Only in the past heart, good time to wait!

Textual research on origin and development

According to the oracle bone inscriptions and inscriptions on gold, Xingtian is a human symbol and a symbol totem of the clan. Xingtian might have been a nameless deity of the Chinese people, but it was called "Xingtian" only after its head was cut off. In the original records of Shanhaijing, it is called "Xingtian", and the name of "Xingtian" is believed to have been changed by Tao Yuanming. According to Tao Jingjie's collection of Shanhaijing poems quoted in Taiping Yulan, "Xingtian" means "the body is young and disabled", but it may be miscopied and there are two theories of "Xingtian wuganqi" and "Xingyao has no thousand years old". After the completion of Tao Qian's poem, the word "Xing Tian Wu Gan Qi" has two theories: "Xing Tian Wu Gan Qi" and "Xingyao Wuqian Wuqian qiansui" because of the wrong copy.

In the sixth year of Xuanhe in the Northern Song Dynasty, Zeng Dan wrote a postscript to Tao Jing Jie Ji and put forward his opinion: Yuanming's poems on Shan Hai Jing had the sentence that "the shape is young, but the ambition is inherent", but he didn't know his meaning. Later, he read Shan Hai Jing, which said: "punishing heaven, the name of beast, it's good to dance with the title of Gan Qi." I know that all five words are wrong. Xingyao is Xingtian, wuqiansui is wuganqi, which is in accordance with the following sentence.

In the Southern Song Dynasty, Zhou Bida (1126-1204) put forward a Refutation in Er Lao Tang Shi Hua. He thinks: Yu said that the solid good, but Jingjie this topic 13, probably refers to one thing. If Kuafu is recorded at the beginning of the first chapter, this chapter is afraid to say that Jingwei's Wooden reclamation will not last for a thousand years, but his ambition will always be there and he will never regret it. If they refer to the heaven of punishment, they do not seem to continue each other. At the end of Kuang's sentence, he said, "I set my mind in the past, and I can wait in the morning." Why do you want to be so fierce? In the middle of the Qing Dynasty, Tao Shu (1779-1839) reprinted the collection of Tao Jingjie. He inclined to Zeng Shu's saying: since the cloud is dead, why is it that there is no thousand years old? Young and thousand years old, how can it be like Peng Shang?

Cangjie(original hieroglyph creator)

Cangjie, formerly known as Hougang, is also known as the master of Cangjie, also known as Shihuang, Cangwang and cangsheng. "ShuoWenJieZi", "Shiben" and "Huainanzi" all record that Cangjie was the left historian of character making in the Yellow Emperor period. Inspired by the footprints of birds and animals, he collected, sorted and used them. He played an important role in the process of creating Chinese characters and was honored as the "Sage of character making".

According to the records of Hetu Yuban and Zen Tongji, Cangjie was a tribal leader in ancient times. During the reign of Cangjie, he once worshipped Luoshu in the water of Luoji.

Cangjie is also the God of writing in Taoism. According to historical records, Cangjie had two pupils and four eyes. He was born wise and virtuous. He observed the movement trend of stars and the footprints of birds and animals, and created characters according to his image. He got rid of the bad habit of tying ropes to record things at that time and created the foundation of civilization. Therefore, he was honored as "Cangjie, the ancestor of literature".

Life of the characters

According to historical documents, some documents recorded that Cangjie was a historian of the Yellow Emperor and a sage of making characters, while others recorded that Cangjie was a tribal leader who had established himself as the emperor's book of worship.

The sage of word making

Cangjie, known in ancient books as "Longyan four eyes, born with Ruide". It is said that he was the Zuo historian of the Yellow Emperor in the late primitive society of China, and Cangjie was the Zuo historian. Ju recitation is right history. According to historical records: after the rise of the Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan, inspired by the footprints of birds and animals, Cangjie and Jusong, the historiographers of the Yellow Emperor, concentrated the wisdom of the working people and worked hard for decades to collect, sort out and popularize the hieroglyphic symbols handed down to the ancestors. Although the knots are different in size and shape, they are difficult to distinguish due to their age and depth. Hou Cangjie looked up at the trend of Kuixing huanqu, looked down at the turtle back texture, bird and animal claw marks, mountains and rivers morphology and palm fingerprints, inspired by them, and created hieroglyphs according to the shape of things.

The image created by Cangjie is called character. There are six kinds of general ideas in Cang Jie's writing. One is to refer to things, such as "up and down", and the other is to refer to images, such as "day and month". The third refers to pictophonetic characters, such as "Jiang, he", and the fourth refers to ideographic characters, such as "Wu, Xin". Fifthly, it refers to the transferred words, such as "Lao" and "Kao". The sixth refers to borrowed words, such as "Ling" and "Chang". The words referring to things are above and below. It refers to hieroglyphic characters, which are full day and full month. The characters of pictophonetics take category as form and sound as complement. Understanding of the text, zhigeweiwu, people's words for the letter also. The text of Zhuanzhu is based on the old age. The borrowed words have the same number of words, but the sound is different and the meaning is the same. Therefore, from the Yellow Emperor to the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties, the characters have been used without any change.

On the day of Cangjie's writing, the whole country was jubilant and moved the God. The millet fell down like rain, and the ghosts began to cry at night, which is the record of Huainanzi.

Tribal leader

It is recorded in Hetu Yuban that Cangjie was a tribal leader. He took Yangwu as his capital and established himself as emperor. The year of Jiachen (4637 BC) is the first year of emperor Cang.

When Cangjie was in power, he went south to search his territory. The emperor ascended the mountain of Yangxu, and then went down the Luoshui river. He found the book of Linggui in Luohe of Yuanhu (a xuanhu). Therefore, Cangjie worshipped Luoshu. Luoji is located in Luoning County of Luoyang City, and there is still Cangjie lettering platform in the northwest of Xinghua township of Luoning County. It was built in memory of emperor Cangjie by later generations. In ancient times thousands of years ago, the appearance of Hetu and Luoshu indicated the change of celestial phenomena and the birth of a new emperor. Because many ancestors of civilization in history have a story with it, and Cangjie is one of them.

In the 42nd year of his reign, Cangjie died at the age of 71. After his death, his body was buried in Lixiang, honored as emperor Cang.

Main achievements

According to the records of ancient books and records, Cangjie's contributions are as follows

1、 The so-called "Cang Jie wrote a book" does not mean that Cang Jie completely invented and created the characters, but that Cang Jie extensively collected and carefully sorted out the existing folk pictorial characters, so as to create a set of systematic and standardized pictographic characters.

2、 The book of Shouluo, Hetu and Luoshu recorded in detail the rise and fall of the ancient emperors and the way of governing the country. Only the emperor appointed by heaven could get it. After Cangjie became emperor, he went south to search his own territory and ascended Yangxu mountain. With the Luohe River eastward, he came to Luohe, where Luoshui and the Yellow River meet. He found that the tortoise was carrying a mysterious pattern and dedicated it to Cangjie. The eight trigrams evolved from Luoshu and later became the source of Zhouyi.

Historical records

Historiographer of Chinese characters

This prehistoric legendary figure has never been mentioned in the ancient books before the Warring States period. The first person who mentioned Cangjie was Xun Qing in the Warring States period. Later, it gradually developed into the legend that Cangjie was "the historian of the Yellow Emperor". Huangdi was one of the leaders of the tribal alliance in the late primitive society. At that time, there was no state machine. It can be seen that the saying of "historiographer" was obviously the result of later generations applying the official name of the state machine to the prehistoric legendary figures.

The legend of "Cangjie made characters" has been widely spread in the Warring States period

"Xunzi Jiewu" said: "good books are numerous, and Cangjie alone is one.".

Han Feizi · five beetles: "in the past, Cangjie wrote books, which were called private by himself, and public by his back."

"Lu's spring and Autumn Annals: Junshou chapter" also records: "Xi Zhong as the chariot, Cangjie as the book, Houji as the Jia, gaotao as the punishment, Kunwu as the pottery, Xiaqian as the city, these six people are right to do it."

"Huainanzi · Ben Jing" records: "in the past, Cangjie wrote books, but the rain in the sky was millet, and ghosts cried at night."

"Preface to Shuowen Jiezi" records: "in the beginning of Cangjie's writing, it was based on the pictograph, so it was called the text; after that, it was called the character because the pictograph and sound were mutually beneficial."

The Weishu "Chunqiu yuanmingbao" further records that Cangjie "Longyan extravagant, four eyes Lingguang, really have Ruide, born to be able to write. So the change of heaven and earth, looking up at the Kuixing Yuanqu trend, overlooking the turtle wenniao feather mountains and rivers, the palm of the finger to create text, the sky for rain millet, ghost for night cry, the dragon is hidden

According to Xu Jian's Chuxueji, Volume 11: "Yi said that" in ancient times, the rope was tied to govern, and later sages changed it with the deed of writing ", and" when Cangjie created the writing, and then the deed of writing was made, it was the beginning. "

Master Daoshi of Ximing temple in Tang Dynasty? There is such a record in his famous work Fayuan Zhulin: "in the past, there were three masters who made books. The long name is fan, and his book goes to the right; the second name is kharolu, and his book goes to the left; the third name is Cangjie, and his book goes down. " (Dazheng collection, Vol. 53, P. 351, middle and bottom)

According to Buddhist legends in the late southern and Northern Dynasties and the Tang Dynasty, Cangjie and the immortal who created Sanskrit and kharoshu in India were three brothers. The Sanskrit sent the three of them down to heaven to create characters in Tianzhu and China.

According to the dictionary of Chinese names, "Cangjie was the history of Zuo in the Yellow Emperor's time. He was born and sacred. He had four eyes, the traces of birds and animals, and the characters were Cheng, Tian Yu Su, and ghosts all cried at night." Sima Qian's historical records, Han Xushen's ShuoWenJieZi and guoshiquanshu all share this view.

The Zen Tongji written by Luo MI in Song Dynasty says: "emperor Cang, Shi Huang's surname is Hougang, and his name is Jie. He was born to be able to write. He was extravagant and had four eyes Looking up at the potential of Kuixing Yuanqu, looking down at the tortoise script, bird feather, mountains and rivers, the palm of the finger and creating characters The sky is the rain millet, the ghost is the night cry, the dragon is hidden

Zhang Yanyuan's "the history of famous paintings · the origin of painting" explains: "Jie has four eyes, looking up at the sky. Because of the trace of Li Wugui, the shape of the characters was determined. Nature can't hide its secret, so it rains in the sky; spirits can't escape its form, so ghosts cry at night. At the same time, calligraphy and painting were not separated from each other. There is no way to convey its meaning, so there is a book. There is no way to see its shape, so there is a painting. There is also the meaning of heaven and earth saints. "

"ShuoWenJieZi · Xu" records: "in the history of the Yellow Emperor, Cangjie saw the traces of birds and animals' hoofs. He knew that there were differences between the two. When he first made a contract, he was far away from all kinds of works, and he could observe all kinds of products." This record describes the deeds of Cangjie's character creation.

"Lu's Chunqiu · shenfenlan · Junshou" said: "Xi Zhong as a chariot, Cangjie as a book, Houji as a Jia, gaotao as a punishment, Kunwu as a pottery, Xiaqian as a city, these six people are right."

"Gouzi · Jiebi" records: "there are many good books, and Cangjie is the only one."

Tribal leader

In other historical records, Cangjie was a tribal leader.

According to the ancient text Hetu Yuban: "Cangjie was the emperor's southern tour, riding on the mountain of Yang deficiency, and facing the water of Luohe in Yuan Dynasty. The spirit tortoise is responsible for the book, and the DanJia and Qingwen will teach it. "

This is the explanation in the book of Han Dynasty: "Cangjie thought that he was either the ancient emperor or the historian of the Yellow Emperor.

Ming Bao of the spring and Autumn period and the Yuan Dynasty: the surname of emperor Cang is Shihuang, and his name is Jie, and his surname is Hou Gang. Longyan extravagant duo, four eyes Lingguang. He was born to be able to write. And by the river map green words, so the poor world changes. Looking up at the Kui star circle, we can see the trend, the turtle text, the bird language, the mountains and rivers, and the palm of our fingers to create the text. The sky is the rain millet, the ghost is the night cry, and the dragon is hidden. For 10 years, they were all buried in Yangwu, and finally in Lixiang Pavilion of Yamen. "

Character evaluation

In the ancient primitive society, human beings gradually developed from "piling stones to record events", "tying ropes to record events" to "symbolic characters". Ancient symbols and characters have lasted for more than 5000 years in Chinese history, and the cultural records in the early ancient times are basically recorded with symbols and characters.

Cangjie's contribution lies in his extensive collection of folk pictures and characters, and his creation of systematic hieroglyphics. The history book says: "emperor Cang was born to write. And by the river map recorded words, so the poor heaven and earth change, looking up at the Kuixing Yuanqu trend, overlooking the turtle bird feather mountains and rivers, and creating words. The sky is the rain millet, the ghost is the night cry, the dragon is hidden (Huang Shi Yi Shu Kao edited spring and autumn Yuan Ming Bao).

As a matter of fact, it was just a kind of blind worship of Cangjie by the ancients. After the hype of scholars and historians, Cangjie became the ancestor of the invention of Chinese characters. In fact, the history of Chinese characters was born thousands of years before Cangjie.

In the glorious historical picture of the Chinese nation, Cangjie is a figure between myth and legend. No matter from the perspective of mythology, ethnology or folklore, he is a sacred person in ancient times. He is known as "four eyes of dragon face" and "Ruide of sound" (Lun Heng and Lu Shi Chun Qiu). His outstanding achievement lies in "making characters to replace the politics of tying ropes". The creation of this human "secret weapon" makes "rain in the sky, millet in the millet, ghosts cry at night, dragons also hide" (Huainanzi), which is a heroic pioneering work of crying ghosts and gods.

"In the past, Cangjie wrote books, but the rain fell in the sky and the ghosts cried at night" . As soon as the words came out, human beings changed from the wild years to civilized life.

Historical evaluation

In the book of the Han Dynasty, volume 63, biography No.3, it is said that "Cangjie is the author of the book, and" Zhi "and" Ge "are" Wu ". It is not for the saints to think that they are disabled but to prosper. "

"The book of Cangjie" in the first volume of Shiben, the supplement and annotation to Zhang Shu's collection of eight kinds of Shiben: "the book of Cangjie. A chronicle of the world. Xi Zhong's car. The world has its own history. "

In the book of Wei, volume 91, biography 79: "in ancient history, Cangjie looked at the two images and the traces of birds and animals. He did not create words, instead of tying ropes, and used books to protect things. In the imperial court of Xuan, all kinds of works will be narrated. "

"Beishi · vol.81 · liezhuan No.69" says: "since Cangjie, eight styles have entered, only one person."

"Xunzi jiewutong" said: "so many good books, and Cangjie alone, one also."

Influence of later generations

Cangjie unified the variant characters and made them systematic and orderly, which had a profound influence on later generations. After the unification of China in 221 BC, Emperor Qinshihuang followed the example of Cangjie and carried out the policy of "combining calligraphy with writing", forcing large-scale collation and standardization of writing. In the preface to Shuowen, it is recorded that before the unification of Qin Dynasty, "it was divided into seven countries" and "different languages and characters" existed among different countries. After the unification, Li Sinai played the same role, but he didn't combine with Qin Wen. He wrote Cangjie, Zhao Gao, and Hu Wujing, who were ordered by Zhongche government to write Yuanli and erudite respectively. They all took Shi Zhen's big seal script, or rather changed it, so-called small seal script. " In the Qin Dynasty, the characters were unified and simplified. It can be seen that the invention and spread of writing can not be accomplished by one person or one time. It carries more wisdom of ancestors. After repeated screening, it eventually becomes standardized and accepted by people. As the inventor of Chinese characters, Cangjie is only the representative and symbol of many "wise men" who contributed to the invention of Chinese characters.

In Shiben · zupian: "the rain in the sky, the ghosts cry at night." in e-guanzi · Wang tie, Lu Dian of the Song Dynasty explained: "the biography says:" the rain in the sky, the ghosts cry at night. " Before the formation of Cangjie's characters, "Zhide Xuantong" appeared, while after the formation of Cangjie's characters, "Zhide declined". Therefore, the invention of writing by Cangjie can be regarded as a great feat.

Anecdotes and allusions

Phoenix Title Book

It is said that after the Yellow Emperor unified China, he felt that the method of tying a rope to record events was far from satisfying the requirements, so he ordered his historian Cangjie to think of a way to make characters. As a result, Cang Jie built a house on a high platform on the South Bank of the river at that time and devoted himself to writing. However, he thought hard for a long time and didn't make a word. Coincidentally, one day, while Cangjie was thinking, he saw a phoenix flying from the sky. A thing in his mouth fell down and fell right in front of him. Cangjie picked it up and saw that there was a hoof mark on it. But Cangjie couldn't identify the hoof mark of any beast, so he asked a hunter who happened to come. The hunter looked at it and said, "this is the hoof mark of Chen. It's different from the hoof marks of other animals. I can see the hoof marks of other animals as well." Cangjie was inspired by what the hunter said. He thought that all things have their own characteristics. If we can grasp the characteristics of things and draw images, we can all know that this is not a word. From then on, Cangjie paid close attention to the characteristics of all kinds of things, such as sun, moon, star, cloud, mountain, river, Lake, sea, as well as all kinds of birds and animals, and applied utensils. According to their characteristics, he drew figures and created many pictographs. In this way, over a long period of time, there were more words made by Cangjie. Cangjie dedicated these hieroglyphs to the Yellow Emperor. The Yellow Emperor was very happy, and immediately called the chieftains of Kyushu to teach them. So these hieroglyphs began to be used. In order to commemorate Cangjie's contribution to the creation of Chinese characters, the place where Cangjie created Chinese characters was called "Fenghuang calligraphic platform". In the Song Dynasty, a temple was also built here, named "Fengtai Temple".

Cangsheng bird trail

Built in the Cangjie Temple of Baishui County in the Han Dynasty, there is a Qing Dynasty "cangsheng bird trace Book stele". 28 strange symbols are carved on the black stone. It is said that this is the original form of the hieroglyphics created by Cangjie at that time. These bird track books consist of small figures and pictures. This is the earliest hieroglyph in the world. In 1984, the Song Dynasty Wang's Chunhua Ge tie, which was reprinted by Shanghai Bookstore, deciphered them as: "Wuji A and B are the first to share friends. They are listed in the world. They are famous for their style of Qi and light. They are respected by Chishui and are respected by GE Mo and Fu.". [34] according to the historical records of the five emperors, Emperor Yan had holy virtue, the king of fire virtue, and the Yellow Emperor had the auspicious virtue of the earth. The earth was yellow, so he was called the Yellow Emperor. He lived in Zhuolu and was in the central position, so "Wuji" represented the Yellow Emperor, and "a and B" represented the Yan Emperor. "The two emperors of Yan and Huang were the leaders of the tribes. What they did was a model for all the small tribes in the world. "Zuohu × Jia, respected by Chishui, Ge spear cauldron Fu" records that the Yellow Emperor conquered the Yan Emperor and pacified the Chiyou rebellion, the world restored peace, the people lived and worked in peace and contentment, and the Yellow Emperor became the tribal leader of the world. In addition, in the mountain gate, the front hall, the middle hall and the bedroom hall, there are plaques made by Youren, Qiu Xing and Xie Deping to admire the spirit of Cangjie.

Anecdotes of word making

It is said that Cangjie was an official under the Yellow Emperor. The Yellow Emperor assigned him to manage the number of livestock and food in the village. The stock of livestock and food is gradually increasing, and it's hard to remember just by your head. Cang Jie worked all day and all night to find a way. First, he tied a knot on the rope. He used different colors of rope to represent different kinds of animals and food. The knot made with rope represented each number. But over time, it doesn't work. How can we not make mistakes. On that day, Cangjie took part in collective hunting. When he came to a fork in the road, several old people argued about which way to go. An old man insisted on going east, saying that there were antelopes; an old man insisted on going north, saying that there were deer not far ahead; an old man insisted on going west, saying that there were two tigers. If he didn't kill them in time, he would miss the chance. Cang Jie asked, it turned out that they all recognized it by looking at the footprints of wild animals on the ground. Cangjie's heart suddenly a joy: since a footprint represents a kind of beast, why can't I use a symbol to express what I manage? He ran home happily and began to create symbols to express things.

After the Yellow Emperor knew about it, he greatly appreciated it and ordered Cangjie to teach this method to various tribes. Gradually, the usage of these symbols was popularized, and thus the characters were formed.

Cangjie created the character, the Yellow Emperor valued him very much, everyone praised him, his reputation is growing. Cangjie's mind was a little hot, his eyes slowly moved up to the top of his head and his heart. No one looked down upon him, and his words were careless. The Yellow Emperor was very angry when the words reached his ears. He couldn't allow a minister to go bad. How can Cangjie realize his mistake. The Yellow Emperor summoned the eldest man around to discuss. The old man had more than 120 knots on his long beard, which indicated that he was over 120 years old. The old man pondered for a while and went to find Cangjie alone. Cangjie was teaching the people of different tribes to read. The old man sat at the end of the class and listened as carefully as others. When Cangjie finished speaking, all the others scattered, but the old man didn't go and was still sitting in his old place. Cang Jie was a little curious and asked why he didn't go.

The old man said, "Cangjie, your words have become a household name, but I'm always dazzled. Some words are still confused today. Are you willing to teach me again?" Cang Jie was very happy to see that all the old people respected him so much. He urged him to speak quickly. The old man said, "the word" horse "," donkey "and" mule "you made all have four legs, and the word" cow "you made has four legs. Why doesn't the word" cow "have four legs and only has one tail?" When Cang Jie heard this, he was a little flustered: when he first made the word "fish", he wrote it like "cow", and when he made the word "cow", he wrote it like "fish". I blame myself for my carelessness, but I've turned it upside down. The old man then said, "when you make the word" Zhong ", it means that it's thousands of miles away. You should read the word" Chu "from afar, but you teach people to read the word" Zhong ". On the other hand, the word "Chu" in the combination of the two mountains is supposed to be the word "Zhong" in weight, but you have become the word "Chu" in going abroad. It's hard for me to figure out these words, so I have to ask for your advice. "

At this time, Cang Jie was so ashamed that he knew that he had made a big mistake because of his pride. These words have been taught to all tribes, spread all over the world, and can't be changed. He quickly knelt down and cried his repentance. The old man took Cangjie's hand and said sincerely, "Cangjie, you have created words so that the experience of our older generation can be recorded and passed on. You have done a great good deed. People from generation to generation will remember you, but you can't be arrogant."

From then on, every time Cangjie made a word, he had to examine the meaning of the word over and over again. He was not careless in asking people's opinions. We all agreed that it would be settled only after it was well done, and then it would gradually spread to each tribe.
