Life of the characters

Assist King Wu

Bi Gong, surnamed Ji and named Gao, is the 15th son of Jichang, King Wen of Zhou, and the half brother of Jifa, King Wu of Zhou. After the death of King Wen of Zhou, King Wu of Zhou, the second elder brother of Duke Bi, succeeded him because of the early death of his elder brother boyikao. After King Wu of Zhou succeeded to the throne, Duke Bi took the post of assisting King Wu of Zhou.

In the 11th year of King Wu of Zhou Dynasty (1046 BC), King Wu of Zhou attacked the Shang Dynasty and defeated the Shang army in the battle of Muye. King Zhou of Shang Dynasty burned himself to death and the Shang Dynasty perished. On the second day, Duke Bi, Duke Zhou and Duke Zhao escorted King Wu of Zhou into the capital of Shang, where they sacrificed to heaven and earth. After offering sacrifices to heaven and earth, King Wu of Zhou ascended the throne and established the political power of Zhou Dynasty, which is called Western Zhou Dynasty in history.

After being granted the title

After the establishment of the Zhou Dynasty, in order to consolidate the political power of the Zhou Dynasty, King Wu of the Zhou Dynasty implemented the system of enfeoffment, and granted the meritorious officials, lineages, and the descendants of the sages, so he granted the tenth and fifth younger brother Bi Gong in bidi [4] (also known as Bimo, Bi Yuan, Xianyang yuan, now Xianyang in Shaanxi, or Xi'an in Shaanxi), and established the state of Bi, whose title was Duke, so he called Bi gong or Bi Gong Gao.

The rule of Chengkang

After the death of King Wu of Zhou Dynasty, his son Jisheng succeeded to the throne for King Cheng of Zhou Dynasty. After King Cheng of Zhou succeeded to the throne, Duke Bi, Duke Zhou, Duke Zhao and others assisted the government together. On his deathbed, King Cheng worried that Prince Ji Zhao was not competent for the throne. At that time, Duke Zhou was dead, so he ordered Duke Bi and Duke Zhao to lead the princes to assist Prince Ji Zhao to succeed. After the death of King Cheng of Zhou, Duke Bi and Duke Zhao led the princes to guide Ji Zhao to visit the temple of the former king, and repeatedly warned him that King Wen and King Wu of Zhou could achieve the king's career, which was hard won. The most important thing was that they were thrifty and had no greed. They ruled the world with sincerity and dedication, and wrote "taking care of one's fate". So Ji Zhao succeeded to the throne as king Kang of Zhou.

With the help of Bi Gong and others, the reign of King Cheng of Zhou and King Kang of Zhou was stable, and there was no penalty for more than 40 years, which was called "the rule of Cheng Kang". In the 12th year of King Kang of Zhou, King Kang of Zhou ordered bigong to separate part of the people of Chengzhou and move to the eastern suburbs of Chengzhou [9], as the Pingfan of Chengzhou, and wrote down "life".

Main achievements

Bi Gonggao followed King Wu of Zhou to establish his army to defeat Zhou and made great achievements. After the establishment of the Western Zhou Dynasty, he was responsible for dealing with the prisoners held by King Zhou of Shang Dynasty. He took lenient measures to vindicate many unjust convictions, and praised the meritorious officials who suffered from direct remonstration. As a result, he became one of the "four sages of the early Zhou Dynasty". Later, he was granted the title of Duke by King Wu of Zhou. He is known as Bi Gonggao in the world. After the death of King Wu of Zhou, he was one of the ministers in charge of his orders. Together with the two ministers of Zhou and Zhao, he successively assisted King Cheng and King Kang of Zhou, which made the economy and culture of the Zhou Dynasty develop greatly and formed a prosperous age of "the rule of Cheng and Kang".
