Guan Shu

Guan Shu (? --In 1039 BC), surnamed Ji, named Xian, was the third son born to Jichang and Taisi, King Wen of Zhou Dynasty. Jifa, King Wu of Zhou Dynasty, had the same mother and brother. He was one of the three supervisors in the early Zhou Dynasty. He was the king of the Zhou Dynasty (now Zhengzhou, Henan Province). Because of being granted the title of governing country, it is called Guan Shu or Guan Shuxian.

After King Wu of Zhou destroyed the Shang Dynasty and founded the Zhou Dynasty, he sealed Guan Shuxian in Guandi and established Guanguo. Together with CAI Shudu and Huo Shuchu, he assisted and supervised Wu Geng, the son of King Zhou of Shang Dynasty, and governed the adherents of Shang Dynasty, which is known as "three supervisors" in history.

After the death of King Wu of Zhou, his son, King Cheng of Zhou, succeeded to the throne. King Cheng of Zhou was young and was Regent by Zhou GongDan, the fourth brother of Guan Shuxian. Guan Shuxian, Cai Shudu and Huo Shuchu were dissatisfied with the Regency of Zhou GongDan, so they took Wu Geng and launched a rebellion, which was known as the rebellion of the three prisons in history. Before long, Zhou GongDan put down the rebellion, killed Guan Shuxian and destroyed Guan state.

Life of the characters

Early experience

Guan Shuxian is the third son of Jichang, King Wen of Zhou Dynasty, and the brother of Jifa, King Wu of Zhou Dynasty. Guan Shuxian's mother's name is Tai Si, surnamed Si. She is the daughter of the Shen tribe and the wife of King Wen of Zhou Dynasty. Taisi was industrious in running his family and abided by women's principles, so he was known as wenmu.

Taisi and King Wen of Zhou had ten sons, the eldest son boyikao, the second son Jifa, King Wu of Zhou, the third son Guan Shuxian, the fourth son Zhou GongDan, the fifth son Cai Shudu, the sixth son Cao shuzhenduo, the seventh son Ying Shuwu, the eighth son huoshuchu, the ninth son Kang Shufeng and the tenth son ran jizai.

Guan Shuxian's ten brothers were deeply taught by their mother, Dasi, when they were young, so they never did anything against common sense and absurd.

Vassal state

After the death of King Wen of Zhou, Guan Shuxian's elder brother, Boyi Kao, died early, so he was succeeded by his second elder brother, King Wu of Zhou. In the 11th year of King Wu of Zhou Dynasty (1046 BC), King Wu of Zhou Dynasty perished the Shang Dynasty and established the regime of Zhou Dynasty, which is known as the Western Zhou Dynasty in history.

After the establishment of the Zhou Dynasty, in order to consolidate the political power of the Zhou Dynasty, King Wu of Zhou implemented the system of enfeoffment, and granted the meritorious officials, clans and the descendants of the sages, so he enfeoffed the land (now Zhengzhou, Henan Province) to his third brother, Guan Shuxian, to establish the state of administration, and the land of CAI (now Shangcai, Henan Province) to his fifth brother, Cai Shudu, to establish the state of CAI. King Wu of Zhou granted the adherents of Shang Dynasty to Wu Geng (Lu Fu), the son of King Zhou of Shang Dynasty (emperor Xin), who had the same status as the princes, so as to hold the sacrifice of his ancestors. Because Wu Geng was not yet convinced, King Wu of Zhou asked Guan Shuxian, Cai Shudu and Huo Shuchu to help supervise Wu Geng and govern the adherents of Shang Dynasty.

Three Guards

After the death of King Wu of Zhou, the crown prince Jisong succeeded to the throne for King Cheng of Zhou. [8] When King Cheng of Zhou ascended the throne, he was too young to deal with government affairs independently. At that time, the Zhou Dynasty was still in the early days, and the political situation was not very stable. Zhou GongDan, the fourth younger brother of Guan Shuxian, became Regent of the state, and acted as king Cheng of Zhou to deal with state affairs. Guan Shuxian, Cai Shudu and Huo Shuchu suspected that Zhou GongDan would usurp the throne. They were indignant and spread rumors everywhere. In the second year of King Cheng of Zhou Dynasty (1041 BC), the three supported Wu Geng to revolt together.

In the fourth year of King Cheng of Zhou Dynasty (1039 BC), Zhou GongDan went to the East in the name of King Cheng of Zhou. Soon after, Zhou GongDan put down the rebellion, killed Guan Shuxian and Wu Geng, exiled Cai Shudu, reduced Huo Shuchu to a common people, and Guan state perished. After the fall of Guan state, the descendants of Guan Shuxian took the name of the state as their surname, which was called Guan family.

Main achievements

After the establishment of the Zhou Dynasty, King Wu of Zhou granted Cai Shudu the land of CAI and established the state of CAI. King Wu of Zhou granted the adherents of Shang Dynasty to Wu Geng (Lu Fu), the son of King Zhou of Shang Dynasty. Because Wu Geng was not yet convinced, he asked Guan Shuxian, Cai Shudu and Huo Shuchu to help and supervise Wu Geng and govern the adherents of Shang Dynasty.

Historical evaluation

Sima Qian's records of the Historian: "there is no sufficient record of the chaos caused by CAI. However, King Wu of the Zhou Dynasty collapsed, and there were few Chengwang. The whole world was suspicious. The ten people who belonged to Chengshu and Yaji, the younger brothers of Tongmu, were the assistants. The reason was that the princes died in Zongzhou, so the words of the aristocratic family were attached. "

"The younger brother of King Wu, Guan, CAI and Huo. Zhou Gongju is the prime minister, and the rumor is a work. "The wolf makes it difficult, and the owl makes it difficult."

Anecdotes and allusions

During the Warring States period, Wei Wenhou, the monarch of the state of Wei, asked Hu Zhangzi, "can my father be relied on?" "Fox paper answered:" can't Wei Wenhou said: "can my son be relied on?" "Fox paper answered:" can't Wei Wenhou said: "can you rely on your elder brother?" "Fox paper answered:" can't Wei Wenhou said: "can my younger brother be relied on?" "Fox paper answered:" can't Wei Wenhou said: "can the virtuous officials rely on it?" "Fox paper answered:" can't Wei Wenhou suddenly changed his face and said angrily, "I ask you about these five situations, but you think you can't. what's the reason?" Hu Juan Zi replied: "the father is not more virtuous than Yao, but his son Danzhu is exiled; the son is not more virtuous than Shun, but his father is detained; the elder brother is not more virtuous than Shun, but his younger brother Xiang is exiled; the younger brother is not more virtuous than Duke Zhou, but his elder brother Guan Shu is killed; the minister is not more virtuous than King Shang and Tang But Xia Jie and Shang Zhou were attacked by them. People who depend on others can't achieve their goals. People who depend on others can't last long. If you want to govern the country well, you have to start from yourself. How can others rely on you? "
